Beyond their efforts to support the adoption of multi-pollutant legislation, the members of the Clean Energy Group have been active in developing progressive environmental programs and initiatives.   "Leading by Example" highlights these efforts, demonstrating that financial success and superior environmental performance need not be opposing goals.  To learn more about their efforts, select from the links below.  New case studies will be added on a regular basis highlighting additional programs and initiatives.

PG&E to launch ClimateSmart, a voluntary GHG reduction program

By spring 2007, PG&E plans to launch ClimateSmart: a new and innovative voluntary program that will provide customers with the option to neutralize greenhouse gas emissions associated with their energy use by contributing an estimated $4.31 more each month. This money will be used to protect California's environment and contribute to state and local efforts aimed at fighting climate change.

Exelon Establishes Voluntary Goal to Reduce its Greenhouse Gas Emissions by 8%

On May 6, 2005, Exelon Corporation announced it has established a voluntary goal to reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by eight percent from 2001 levels by the end of 2008. Exelon has also committed to work with, and encourage, its suppliers to reduce their GHG emissions. The company will incorporate recognition of GHG emissions and their potential cost into its business analyses as a means to promote internal investment in climate-reducing activities. Exelon made this pledge under the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Climate Leaders program.

PSEG Sponsors Retrofit of 44 Newark, New Jersey School Buses with Emissions-Reducing Technology

Public Service Enterprise Group Incorporated (PSEG) joined with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) to retrofit 44 Newark, New Jersey school buses with emissions-reducing technology.  The low-emissions buses will serve over 400 students who attend 19 schools.

Entergy Progresses in Commitment to Stabilize Carbon Dioxide Emissions

In May 2001, Entergy made a voluntary commitment to stabilize carbon dioxide emissions from its power plants at year 2000 levels through 2005.  Entergy dedicated $25 million in supplemental corporate funding for use over the five-year period.

More than 9,000 Philadelphia households have chosen to purchase PECO WIND, a clean, environmentally-friendly wind power option provided by PECO Energy and Community Energy, Inc., a wind energy marketing group.

FPL Group Scores Highest in U.S., Second Globally in World Wildlife Fund Report on Clean, Efficient Energy

FPL Group scored the highest ranking in the U.S. and second globally in a World Wildlife Fund (WWF) report that analyzed 72 of the world's leading power companies reviewing current use of available technologies to reduce CO2 emissions, as well as clear commitments made for future improvements.
